Robbie's Beginner |
Over the last several years that I have taught ballroom dancing, I have always heard one of two things on the second lesson:
1) "I didn't get the chance to practice since our last
lesson."
or
2) "I tried to practice but I couldn't remember how that step went."
After hearing that enough times, I decided to create a cheat sheet to aide newcomers in their quest for social comfort on the dance floor to take home and practice with. Now, via the greatness of technology, I have created this online cheat sheet so you can see the footsteps for yourselves. I have also included a little more detail to help with the style, dance position, and movement of the dance. All which would have created too much paperwork to send a student home with after a first couple of lessons. So here are the cheat sheets to a few of the most popular dances that are being taught during the first few lessons at most dance studios. Hope this helps all of you.
Foxtrot | Waltz | Rumba | Cha Cha | Tango
East Coast Swing | Salsa/Mambo | Carolina Shag
By popular request, I have a new treat to aid in you quest to dancing greatness. This wonderful is an image of my lovely footsteps in the 5 different foot positions that you will encounter all throughout dancing. If you remember that every step you take in dancing is in one of these positions then you will see your steps clean up very quickly. So without further ado, here they are. Hope they help.
