Foxtrot

The Foxtrot should be danced less than arms length apart from your partner if not with body contact. The dance should be smooth and happy in its movements. Forward steps should be danced through the heel, and backward steps through the toes to make this dance glide easier. At first, this dance should only use standard walking steps to move about the dance floor. As you get more comfortable dancing with a partner in front of you, the steps will gradually get longer. Keep in mind that the Foxtrot should move similar to the Knight from a game of Chess; straight forward or backward, then directly to the side. This dance should have no curving or skewing at all in the basic step. Other patterns in the Foxtrot will help you move around the dance floor easily, but that will come in due time.
