East Coast Swing |
The Swing is a fun, and versatile dance. It has two positions that you can start with, and 3 different rhythms (Single, Double, and Triple). Triple is shown in the animations below, but single and triple are both listed in the descriptions. The Swing should be relaxed with the arms holding about level with the floating ribs, and springy in the legs. The dance position is usually a open 2-hand hold in the beginning or can be a closer hold where the couple is approximately hip to hip with the lady slightly off-center to the man's right side. All steps are taken through the ball of the foot like Rumba, Cha Cha, or Mambo. A little bit of leaning into the steps (with the exception of the rock step) will help to create a more fun look and feel to this dance. Posted below are the steps for the Triple and Single time basics of Swing.
